The Peninsula juts far out into the ocean, and the highest point is only a few hundred feet above sea level. As a result, the vast majority is covered with salt marsh, mangrove swamps, and thick jungle, all connected with a network of rivers, streams, and tidal estuaries. The only true ‘city’ is Sabak, on the coast near the north of the country, and is a thriving port city.
Dragonborn, Orcs, and Gnolls make up much of population, but further inland it’s common to find tribes of other races, such as Ettercaps, Bullywugs, Kobolds, Lizardfolk, and several large Yuan-Ti settlements.
These populations are largely independent from each other, but every few years, when certain stars align, the tribes send representatives to a secret meeting deep in the jungles to elect a new President. The President seems to have little impact on the day-to-day on the lives of the citizens of the Peninsula, yet also commands deep respect, and the entire nation readily sends troops to war at his say-so.
The jungles and swamps are the source of many rare and powerful alchemical ingredients and
Kardossi has been able to raise large armies in the past, but keeps very little in the way of standing military strength. The various tribes and groups that make up its population are constantly fighting in low-scale combat amongst each other, fighting over resources, territory, and who knows what else.
The fragmented nature of the military limits the effectiveness of large-scale battles, but smaller units are usually made up of close-knit fighters who have a lot of experience fighting alongside each other, and as a result, tend to be very effective. Historically, territory in the Kardossi Peninsula has been very hard to take, and even harder to keep, because of the tenacity of the population’s guerilla fighters.
Darius maintains strong patrols along the Kardossi border, as it is not unheard of for one or several of the Kardossi tribes to mount a raid into The Kingdom, for captives to ransom, resources to use, or even just earning prestige among the other tribes in the Peninsula.
Special Laws and Circumstances
Travelers to Kardossi are encouraged not to leave the city of Sabak. While the city itself is as safe as any Darian citizen could expect to find a foreign city, the countryside is largely lawless, and locals are openly hostile to most foreigners.
